Event Horizon – Environment Art

This was my first personal project which I started after getting my game design diploma in 2018. I created the infirmary from the movie “Event Horizon” as a game ready 3D-Environment. It helped me land my first job as game-designer/developer, so it is very dear to my heart, even though it is an old project.

I first blocked out the environment in Autodesk Maya 2017, always refering to some reference-images (fotos I took from my TV while watching the movie). Once I was happy with the scale and layout, I started blocking out the other assets.

I then created some high- and low-poly models and used them to bake normal maps in Substance Painter. I textured the assets almost exclusively in Substance Painter, with the exception of some fake UI elements on the cart and the desks, which I did in Krita.

I learned a lot of things while working on this project, not just about modelling and texturing but also about good / bad workflow.

The environment-screenshots are done in Unity 2019, the renders of the assets are from Substance Painter or Maya (with Radeon ProRender)
